A Guide for Couples Who Want to Feel Confident in Their Decision

Hanna and Auston’s wedding was quite the party if I do say so myself! We had fakeout first looks, some cat featurings, and neverending bubble guns that became a highlight of the reception. But all through that we had these two enjoying each other and their friends and family while they celebrated their love!

I am such a fan of Sarah and Brad! These two were so great to get to know over the course of the year and I love their story! Being a veteran of the service industry myself, it was really cool to learn they met each other at 801 Chophouse while Brad was a chef and Sarah was a hostess. Fast forward years later and Brad is doing his chef thing while Sarah now has her own pastry business (shoutout Elevated Pastries)! Last week they finally tied the knot!

I am so happy I was able to share the day with these Kayla, Michael and all their friends and family! We have so many pictures in this blog to show all the evidence of an amazing wedding day. Congrats to you both on a great day and a great marriage in the future!

How much time should you set aside for photos?

It’s a great question and one that’s often underestimated. Wedding photography isn’t just one block of time. It’s a series of moments spread throughout the day: getting ready, portraits, family photos, ceremony coverage, and reception moments. Understanding how long each part typically takes will help your timeline feel relaxed instead of rushed. This is a realistic breakdown of how long each category of wedding photos usually takes with me as your photographer.

Moss Denver is such a perfect venue for a Sunday brunch wedding and it did not disappoint! The beautiful lighting mixed with the mossy brick interior made for a very cool setting for the ceremony. But what really stood out was the effort these two put in to really make this wedding mirror who they are as a couple. Lis and John are perfect kind of nerdy which I can definitely related to. They love books, board games, and puzzles and they made sure to incorporate all of them!

The Getting Ready portion of the wedding day is really how you make it! Do you want it small and private? Or do you want anyone and everyone to be there to enjoy the day with you? There’s no wrong answer! But this blog is all about how this part of the day looks from the photographer’s perspective. Now not all of this will fit your wedding day. I’ve had brides that didn’t care for me getting the details and I’ve had brides that chose not to do any first looks. It is completely up to you, but I did want to give you an idea of what a typical getting ready looks like from my point of view!

One of the biggest timeline decisions couples make is whether or not to do a first look. In fact, that is the second question I ask after ceremony time when I’m having my initial consultations! The moment itself is one thing to think about, but having a first look or not makes a very big difference when it comes to the timeline. It can affect how the day feels, how much time you have for portraits, when you attend cocktail hour, and what kind of photos you’ll end up with.

Wedding trends change fast! What feels modern and exciting today can sometimes feel dated much sooner than couples expect. When couples look back at their wedding photos years from now, what they usually want isn’t what was popular at the time but it’s photos that still feel honest, emotional, and true to thier personalities. After years of photographing weddings, I’ve become a bit of an expert in what makes images feel timeless versus what tends to age quickly. This post is about making intentional choices that will still feel right decades from now!

My first wedding of the year and it was absolutely perfect! Nothing like getting started off with an intimate microwedding in Rocky Mountain National Park on a beautiful spring day. And that is exactly what Cat and Sean got! These two came in from Dallas and we were prepared for any kind of weather in the weeks leading up to the wedding. Then of course we got the best weather of the year so far up in Estes. With a snowstorm happening the week before, we were still able to get snowcaps on the mountains which made the backdrop that much more stunning!

When couples imagine their wedding day, they usually think of the big moments like the ceremony, the first look, and the dances. And these moments are definitely emotional! But after photographing hundreds of weddings, I’ve noticed sometimes the most meaningful moments don’t happen on the timeline. They happen in between. Unexpectedly and often when no one is watching. Many times these are the moments couples don’t realize will mean the most until they see their photos!

Let’s be honest—your wedding isn’t just another event. It’s one of the best days of your life, and the photos you look back on in 10, 20, 50 years should make you feel something. Not just “Oh that’s nice”—but the real joy, the laughter, the weird little looks you give each other, the belly laughs with your friends, and all the joyful chaos in between. That’s exactly why I love shooting weddings here in Denver and across Colorado: because every couple, every venue, every vibe is totally different—and that’s what makes great photos great.
